Pastor's Message for 1/5/2020
Happy New Year to all!
I have so enjoyed journeying through Advent and now Christmas with you all, and now I find myself looking forward to the year ahead and offering you all my prayers that you may persevere in fulfilling your New Year’s resolutions…whatever they may be. (I’m promising myself to try to shed the pounds I’ve accumulated since Thanksgiving!) You may have noticed some activity around the rectory these past weeks. Soon after arriving in Ojai, I discovered that when the rectory was constructed in the early sixties it included a privacy wall enclosing the area outside the kitchen and dining room. At some point, I’m given to understand that one of my fellow Augustinians decided to remove it for reasons unknown. In conversation with my brothers in community I decided to replace it in order to give us some private outdoor space to enjoy. This project has been paid for by the
Augustinian Community. Another discovery I made was that the rectory garage was long overdue for a roof replacement. Not only our vehicles but also parish records are stored in the garage, and I discovered that water was pouring in through the roof every time it rained. I’ve authorized the roof replacement to be paid for out of the Parish Building Fund.

Year 2 Parent Connect - Sept. 29th
This week's Confirmation class focused on the Sacrament of Confirmation as the completion of baptismal grace and the sacrament of Christian maturity. We also went over some misconceptions candidates may have about receiving the sacrament. Our candidates took some time to look over the baptismal promises you made on their behalf when they were baptized (if they were baptized as infants). We then took time at the end of the session to prayerfully focus ourselves on the remainder of the preparation. Parent Connect - September 29th
This week at Confirmation we talked about the existence of God and the implications this has on our lives. Teenagers will likely have a discussion with someone who does not believe in God or who challenges their belief in God at some during high school. This week we began to give teenagers some practical reasons why there is a Creator, and that Creator is God. This week in Confirmation we discussed the relationship our faith has to the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism is our gateway to life in Christ, and it plants the seed of faith within us. Take time this week to talk with your candidate about their baptism. Talk about the day, the people who were there, the priest who baptized them, and the church they were baptized in.
