Please Pray

January 4, 2019 - 11:01am

Dear Fellow Prayer Line Members. I am writing from my daughter's home in So Carolina. Last week she received a biopsy report that my 17yr old granddaughter, Claire Fontanella, has a "malignant melanoma, invasive" on her back next to her thoracic spine. This is not a sun-caused melanoma but rather a fast growing kind frequently associated with "adolescents and young adults". The Dec holidays kept the lab results from getting to our family in a timely manner. At this moment our daughter,Danielle, is making arrangements to take Claire to Sloan Kettering Hospital in NY where they specialize in this. Hopefully  next week they will remove what remains of the tumor and nearby lymph nodes to see if it has spread. The SC labs think it has but we are praying this will not be the case. Claire is a beautiful person finishing her senior year in high school and planning for college. Her family are devout Catholics and I am asking if you would please pray for Claire's full and complete recovery from this disease. I thank you all so much and will keep you updated.  With love, Charlene Brannan

This week's Confirmation class focused on the Sacrament of Confirmation as the completion of baptismal grace and the sacrament of Christian maturity. We also went over some misconceptions candidates may have about receiving the sacrament. Our candidates took some time to look over the baptismal promises you made on their behalf when they were baptized (if they were baptized as infants). We then took time at the end of the session to prayerfully focus ourselves on the remainder of the preparation. If you have not done so already, this is a great time to check in on your candidate...Read more

This week at Confirmation we talked about the existence of God and the implications this has on our lives. Teenagers will likely have a discussion with someone who does not believe in God or who challenges their belief in God at some during high school. This week we began to give teenagers some practical reasons why there is a Creator, and that Creator is God. We also challenged them to make an important distinction; we challenged them to ask if they just believed there was a God or they believed in God. Belief in God requires trust and...Read more

Parent Connect:

This week in Confirmation we discussed the relationship our faith has to the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism is our gateway to life in Christ, and it plants the seed of faith within us. Take time this week to talk with your candidate about their baptism. Talk about the day, the people who were there, the priest who baptized them, and the church they were baptized in. Give details so they can visualize this significant event in their life. Share any pictures from their baptism. Take time to discuss with them why you chose them to...Read more
