Pastor's Message for 1/5/2020

March 13, 2020 - 10:12am

Happy New Year to all!

I have so enjoyed journeying through Advent and now Christmas with you all, and now I find myself looking forward to the year ahead and offering you all my prayers that you may persevere in fulfilling your New Year’s resolutions…whatever they may be. (I’m promising myself to try to shed the pounds I’ve accumulated since Thanksgiving!) You may have noticed some activity around the rectory these past weeks. Soon after arriving in Ojai, I discovered that when the rectory was constructed in the early sixties it included a privacy wall enclosing the area outside the kitchen and dining room. At some point, I’m given to understand that one of my fellow Augustinians decided to remove it for reasons unknown. In conversation with my brothers in community I decided to replace it in order to give us some private outdoor space to enjoy. This project has been paid for by the
Augustinian Community. Another discovery I made was that the rectory garage was long overdue for a roof replacement. Not only our vehicles but also parish records are stored in the garage, and I discovered that water was pouring in through the roof every time it rained. I’ve authorized the roof replacement to be paid for out of the Parish Building Fund.

Wishing you all a blessed week.

- Fr. Kirk

Dear Fellow Prayer Line Members. I am writing from my daughter's home in So Carolina. Last week she received a biopsy report that my 17yr old granddaughter, Claire Fontanella, has a "malignant melanoma, invasive" on her back next to her thoracic spine. This is not a sun-caused melanoma but rather a fast growing kind frequently associated with "adolescents and young adults". The Dec holidays kept the lab results from getting to our family in a timely manner. At this moment our daughter,Danielle, is making arrangements to take Claire to Sloan Kettering Hospital in NY where they specialize in this. Hopefully...Read more

Santa Barbara Region Fire Fund

From Bishop Barron
January 3, 2019

The Woolsey and Hill Fires now out of control in the southern part of the Santa Barbara Region has forced thousands to flee with no end in sight. Highway closures have many stranded with nowhere to go and the immediate need for food and shelter will soon begin to become apparent. Two of our parishes have also evacuated and altho0ough no buildings have been reported lost, we all know that it will take several days to learn the full extent of any damage or injury.

Earlier this year the Thomas Fire which effected so many of our own family...Read more
